Day 14 - Almost "go time"
well today, i finished my puppy, finally
and i got a lot of help on trying to figure out what i needed to do to make it how i want it, its awesome :) im really happy with how it turned out... i just wish i still had a little more time to add a background.. oh well
i also added a sound to the actual app, and it freaks everyone out, because it sounds so real... its really awesome..
the google speakers were really awesome, i like how they care about our futures and what we do with our lives, even though they dont know us.. :) makes me happy
these past 3 weeks have been a great experience for me... i hope i can find a way to influence what i learned into something in my life... i loved the rotoscoping..and i really am determined to finish that blooming flower rotoscope...maybe i can get all of the adult people's emails.. so i can send it to them when im done... (if anyone's reading this and wants to see the finished product... give me your email..)
if i dont get the chance to thank everyone tomorrow, i'll do it now..
thanks so much for a great 3 weeks of fun, laughter, learning, and an experience i would love to have again.
i really enjoyed everyone in this whole class, they're great... i hope we can all keep in touch somehow...
thanks so much everyone...

Day 14 - 11:00
so our speaker today was pretty cool, his name is Simone (he's italian) and he definitely reiterated the fact that we need to do what we love to do.
I would love to work at google.. they treat the employees so well
he said something about "20% time" which is something that google encourages.. they want you to take one day of a week to do something important for you or the company, and that's how gmail was created, and he said that sometimes they go to Frasier Meadows to teach the elder people how to use email.
he also said that he loves working here..which is awesome
thankssssssssssssss Simone

Day 13 - Go time
well today was good... still got a lot of work done... lunch was ok.. kinda stale tasting... but thats ok, its still good food
ummm i played rockband again.. and apparently people are amused by how i play lol
but yeah, google is a good time, its funnn
i dont like how fast time goes when i know what im doing though, like.. when i was learning how to do stuff, it lasted so much longer, now it seems like i do one thing and it takes all day, but all day isnt enough time...
i worked on my puppy ALL day, and im still not done with it, though i did make lots of progress.. i WILL be done by tomorrow, i dont know when, but still... its a lot of work... i hope i can get it done...
time to go home...
yay

Day 13 - 11:00
so we had another google speaker come in.. he was really inspirational.. he made sure we knew that we should do something we love..
he said "dont ever let anyone tell you something's impossible, or use it as an opportunity to prove them wrong, because it opens so many new doors."
it was really cool
THANKS SCOTT! :)

Day 12 - almost "go time"
today was good, i got a lot of work done.. and i found a great website that made me smile.. :)
umm so today i found a good picture of a puppy smiling, and im rotoscoping it, and its turning out really nice so far..
Ryan really wants me to put my rotoscoped flower into my presentation..but it will be really hard to get a lot of it done by friday..
we played rockband with some of the employees at lunch, it was cool
ok im gonna get some free peanut m&ms and then head out...
yay!

Day 12 - 11:00
so a guy named Vijay who works here just came in and did a presentation about some stuff that google does.... and its really cool
like how they do studies on just normal people, and they have the technology to follow where their eyes go..
aand stuff like how certain things are popular in certain places, and how trends and what not can be used to predict things like flu outbreaks and stuff...
oh, and he talked about the art that google does for their logo, and different things they do for different holidays... it sounds like a really fun job...
he talked about a whole bunch of other stuff that i cant really remember...but he was really cool :)

Day 11 - almost "go time"
well the google office is pretty sweet..
they have delicious food, and omg its amazing
they also have rock band, a pool table, and a ping pong table.. lunch is a lot more enjoyable here than at Atlas, even though Atlas was fun too :)
so really all we're doing is working on our final projects.. i'm making progress on my idea that i thought of last night...it's turning out pretty cool so far
i'm going with a 'rotoscope' looking theme...i really like it..
a lot of the stuff i'm doing is kinda hard to do...but still.. i'm getting there..
i really like having Ian, Carolynn, Randall, Graham, John, and Yulia here whenever i need their help..its nice
well its time to get a tour of the building and get goinggg
thanks for reading!

Day 10 - past "go time"
i'm writing this blog from home, because i got caught up in my rotoscope, and needed to finish a frame, which takes FOR EVER!
its rediculous...i ALMOST have a big chunk done, and i was gonna upload the progress on here, but i didnt have time, AND i dont know how..so i wont..
umm so today was pretty chill, we learned the sound thing, like i said, and we made a knol, like i said...and after that, we measured shadows and did math to figure out the height of the light post..which was just review for me..
then we walked to the Sink for lunch, and they had A LOT of food.. wings, chicken tenders, quesadillas, and pizza
but i couldnt eat a lot.. i ate one wing and one pizza...
so me, Michelle, Kate, Ben, and Nick went walking around for 10ish minutes, and we ditched Ben and Nick and went to a store called Meow Meow and i baught some 3D dog playing cards..they're pretty cool
then we went to the 'park' and some people played ultimate frisbee and some played spoons.. i played spoons.. didnt feel like getting all sweaty and gross...
uh, then we went in, brainstormed about ideas for our final projects..and i continued working on my rotoscope... i really want to finish that dang thing.. but its gonna take like.. a year at this rate lol jeez..
but yeah.. i hate driving through boulder on fridays, i've decided.. it's wayy too busy for its own good..
but yeah
google on monday... yah

Day 10 - 9:30 a.m.
ugh, we have to write another knol.. i really dont want to..because i really want to work on my rotoscope...*sigh*
i dont even know what to do a knol about... i'll probably just do a quick on on some kind of math..cause im not a fan of programming... :/
um..yeah..
so far today we've learned how to put a sound clip into an animation..and with my rotoscope, it fits perfectly... i really wish i could just finish the thing..
oh well

Day 9 - Almost "go time"
ok, well im very tired, so i kinda forget what we did today..
umm the art part, with Randall, was pretty interesting.. he kinda flew through everything, but that was ok, because it was cool to watch his work progress so quickly lol
you could tell he was nervous at first, because he was talking kinda fast, but he did calm down :) he's cool, i like him :)
snacks are running out, so they're kinda disappointing..but oh well.. lunch is still good.. we had wraps/subs today, i had a wrap with turkey and AVOCADO!!!! so good :)
and the brownies they came with were magically delicious :)
umm for math, we did networking, and circuits and stuff.. and the triangle something that's never ending.. lol
it was interesting, but yeah..i kinda had a hard time understanding what we were doing..with dimensions and stuff
and programming, we did a mappy thing with a thing that told the user how much gas was left in Skippy's tank after driving to 3 different locations..kinda weird..but oh well
umm
yeahh..time to go!!
yay...

god im tired this morning... *sigh* felt like i couldnt pay attention while i was driving..
well i'm here now.. Randall's gonna show us how to do something now, and yeah.. it should be cool too
here we go

Day 8 - Almost "go time"
well today was pretty cool
Carolynn (i think i spelled her name wrong the first time) showed us how to make rodoscopes (or rotoscopes) and it is VERY time consuming.. im really hoping i can finish this project at least during my free time, because i want it to finish the whole clip..which will take a very long time... i'm going to make sure i finish this one..because it's very cool
and for the math part, we went over the pythagorean theorem, and some sine, cosine, and tangent things, and i also learned the difference between radian and degree mode.. pretty cool..but very confusing
we played ultimate frisbee and spoons at lunch, it was pretty fun..amusement is always the highlight of my day
and John taught the programming portion, we made 'skippy the car' jump on a ramp and stuff.. not my favorite..but still pretty cool
before i have to go im gonna crank out my work on this rodoscope/rotoscope
thaaaaaaaaaaanks for reading

Day 8 - 8:00 a.m.
good news, no bad drivers to report.. it was a good change
um so squirrels are really goofy.. i think my cat Dewey might somewhat be related to them.. i saw a squirrel running in circles around and up and down a tree, jumping and velcro-ing itself to the tree... just by itself..
very random.. but it made me smile.. :)
looks like Caroline is showing us something she did, sounds interesting.. here we go :P

Day 7 - Go Time
well, today went by surprisingly fast..
i hope drivers dont anger me on my way home..
ummmmm
so
the art part was awesome, we made mountains with highlights, and a sky, and twinkling stars..it looks really cool..with my spare time, i was trying to make my own version a little better, but i didnt have enough time..and i did it wrong :P but its still fun
and in the math part, we learned more about the exponential growth rates and stuff.. we learned it in algebra 2 in school, so it was a good 'refresher'
but yeah, its simple to do
aand apparently the reason why we can't fold things more than 7 times is because its like folding a ream of printer paper, of 500 sheets
aaaaaaaand in programming, we made a cupcake doubling AND population doubling things, and i kinda figured out the code :)
but yeah time to go home...
yay..

Day 7 - 8:00 a.m.
nothing exciting happened this morning..
basically i hate drivers who don't know the difference between gas and brake..and i hate drivers that can't make up their mind on where they're going...
ugh..
its not good for me to have to deal with this stuff at 7:30 in the morning.

Day 6 - Almost "go time"
Well, today was good for a monday..im incredibly tired though
Starting off the day with seeing Ralphie in the back of a horse trailer was awesome
and then getting here and actually kicking programming's butt lol it makes me feel good about myself :P
i really enjoyed all of the lessons today
the art portion was cool, because we learned how to make a cool looking logo and stuff
and then i figured out how to make my "back" buttons work, and actually go back to the main menu of my application
it was awesome :)
it wasnt required, but i got tired of clicking the close button and opening it just to push the other button :)
and then the math part was fun, because we flipped quarters and learned about the monty hall problem :P
i actually flipped 10 heads in a row!
then the programming, i MADE a monty hall 'lets make a deal' type thing
i also made it look how i wanted, with colors and fonts and stuff :)
and i actually figured it out, and didnt get lost and was one of the first to finish
wellllll im gonna head out, so i can get home soon, and relax before softball practice :/
thanks for a good monday!

WOOOO
i did a smart thing! haha
ok so we were making a demonstration thing with art and logos and buttons, and programming
annd i figured out how to make the button go back to the home page all by myself!! :D:D:D:D:D

I SAW RALPHIE!!
well, Ralphie's back..
she/he was in a horse trailer that said "Here comes Ralphie!" and had pictures all over it.. :) awesome
definitely don't get to see that every day :)

Day 5 - Almost "go time"
today was a really good day
im liking fridays so far :D
in the art section, Ian showed us a funny video on some website that was made with flash, it was really cute..and i sent the link to myself so i could watch it again, its so cute :)
he also showed us one of google's applications called knol, and we were to make tutorials on something that has to do with something about this class. I chose to do a tutorial about making masks in photoshop, and i'm really proud of it, and YOU lucky readers get to see it! :D
here's the link to the beast
leave a comment and let me know what you think :)
so then after that, the math section was awesome too
we went over some things that i've done before, like trying to find out how many feet are in a kilometer, by knowing how many feet are in a meter, and stuff like that.
then after that we did a worksheet with squares and colors that added up to a number, and we were trying to figure out the value of each color. me and kate got done really fast, because we're geniouses.. and Ryan even gave us a more challenging one! :)
THEN after THAT we did a simulation of the spread of the swine flu where we went around with dice and met with people and rolled the dice and if it was less than 5, we circled our designated numbers, then yeah..it was really confusing, but cool
THENNNNN we did an experiment with probability and m&m's.. we would've eaten them after we were done, but they were all soggy and moist and nasty sooo i chose not to :P
but ok, the programming was actually ok..maybe because i didnt actually have to :) it was just a 'catch up' day and i was already finished with all my stuff, so i worked on my tutorial *hint hint*
lunch was good too
lots of food, so i couldnt finish it all..but we went to ..i dont remember the name.. but i had chicken tenders and curly fries with honey mustard
and my pepsi was basically water..so i didnt drink like, any of it :/ but oh well
time for the weekend! yay!!
thanks for reading :)

so another thing i really like about the animals i see when im walking in.. rolie polies, i like how they walk.. and finches and chickadees..they hop around...and squirrels.. i love how they move around.. its great :)

Day 4 - almost "go time"
i gave up.. tomorrow, if something we do is this frustrating..idk... i just hope i dont get lost tomorrow..
well anyway..
the art lesson and the math lesson were awesome today
for art, Ian showed us how to take separate parts of a body cartoon thing and attach them together, then using the bone tool, we can go to different frames and move the cartoon in different ways, to all together make it look like its walking..
we had an extra 30 minutes to mess around and try to get our character to do something cool..im not done yet..but im trying to make him do a strut type thing..its cool :)
and for the math lesson, we walked to the fiske (i think) planetarium, and Ryan showed us the different features of the globe thing..it was very interesting.. i kinda want one in my room :P
then we got to play with all the different exhibits, and one of them demonstrated infrared cameras..and on the screen, my nose and my fingers were black, showing they were cold..it was funny
and then programming..well i wont get into that..it frustrated me today..
we were trying to make an 'ice melting calculator' and of course, i got lost, and yeah.. not fun
but Graham did a good job teaching the lesson, he really is going slower, and being more patient..too bad my brain still cant follow.. :/
oh! and lunch was magical.. so good lol
most fantastic sub sandwich i've ever had
i had 2, and water, and a bag of chips... but its healthy so its ok :) and we've been doing a LOT of walking..im tired of it :/
whatevs, its healthy
but anyway..hopefully tomorrow will be better :/ its almost the weekend! i'll be able to sleep finally.. :)
thanks for reading

but Graham did a good job teaching the lesson, he really is going slower, and being more patient..too bad my brain still cant follow.. :/
oh! and lunch was magical.. so good lol
most fantastic sub sandwich i've ever had
i had 2, and water, and a bag of chips... but its healthy so its ok :) and we've been doing a LOT of walking..im tired of it :/
whatevs, its healthy
but anyway..hopefully tomorrow will be better :/ its almost the weekend! i'll be able to sleep finally.. :)
thanks for reading

Day 4
i dont know what the heck im doing..
i got lost while we were doing programming..and with that..there's no way i can get back on track...
i tried going back to the lab document on the computer, but i dont know what im reading..or what its telling me to do...very stressful..
its decided..i will not be a programmer..ever.

Day 4 - 8:00 a.m.
i forgot to say that Yulia taught the programming lesson yesterday
it was fun, she's a good teacher.. and she's russian.. weird lol..cause you cant really tell she has an accent until you know she's supposed to
i decided i really like pigeons, i saw one while i was walking and it was really cute..just wobbling around slamming its face into the ground at little seeds or something :)

Day 3
i learned a lot today, especially with the math portion.. this class is a LITTLE less stressful now that i kinda know what im doing... its a lot better knowing people more and all that stuff too
The art lesson was cool, Ian showed us a "bone tool" that makes something like a squiggle move like an octopus arm.. its very amusing :)
in math, i learned that banks are jerks, and they make it easier for you to pay back a loan, but in return, you give them more money in the long run...lame..
aaaaaaaaand in the programming, we made a calculator to calculate how much you have to pay back in a certain amount of years with a certain amount of interest, and just how much you earn with a savings account over time with another certain interest and starting rate. it was pretty cool
wooo more walking! :/
-maddie
p.s.
Randall and Carolyn's drawing pads are awesome... i really wanna play on one.. or watch them play :)

Day 3 - lunch
lunch was again, magical..the bread was actually good this time
i love all the time we get at lunch time... gives me time to play around and kinda relax without my brain working too hard :)
yum! water!

Day 3 - 8:00 a.m.
this morning waking up was the worst so far, im very tired
but a fox trotted across the sidewalk in front of me and went in and out of the shrubs on the side, it came out a few times to look at me, and trotted in front of me the same direction i was going, only to run off and hide in a bush or tree or something. it was a very nice morning walk, not too cold, but nice...though there was a creeper across the street on the other sidewalk who kept looking at me..oh well
well its time to get started

Day 2
well i learned a lot today.. i really like the math portion.. im learning new things and the instructor (Ryan) is really funny. he does a really good job teaching and explaining.
one of the main things we learned was the basics of binary and hexadecimal. its awesome :)
the art part was pretty interesting too, its hard to get the hang of everything that goes on, but im getting it
and the programming is still incredibly confusing, soooo much code.. but Graham's doing a better job, he's already slowing down a bit, and i can tell he's got more patience already :)
its fun trying to make these things...and i like making buttons :P
time to go walk 4ish blocks in the rain to the very far away parking lot
yay!

man, its cold outside, and the parking lot is far away..not good for a lazy person like myself.. :/ oh well! god exercise i guess! hah..
anyay...its morning, im tired...but excited for what we're gonna do today
i heard Ian talking to someone about dorm tours, and lunch, and that made me happy, i love lunch! :)
but yeah, i'll update after i actually do something productive today :)
-maddie
p.s.
i still dont like Mac's... :)

Day 1
first of all, these Mac's are rediculous..i really dont like them..but oh well :P
we're learning a lot so far, mostly within adobe flash. we've messed around with code (hex is awesome!) and we learned how to make a shape move across a screen.
the math is a good lesson, the teacher (whose name escapes me at the moment) is pretty cool, he sucks at spelling, but its good humor :)
Ian's pretty cool, too, he's funny, and a good speaker, and he takes his lessons slow so we can follow it easier.
since its Graham's first time teaching, he kinda flies through everything, but i know he's trying, and he knows what he's doing, so its a learning process for everyone
the food's good, too :)
(not to mention the free goodies are really fun!)
thanks for reading,
